Sewing – Mental Health

Dear Readers,

Ever tried sewing? don’t you dare bring gender issues here. Anyone can sew. So did you? Have you ever tried?

Why Sewing?

Sewing is a kind of an art and if you try and learn sewing you are actually doing some thing for yourself. Imagine hand sewing a skirt for yourself or adjusting a loose shirt and making it a perfect fit for you.

No one is perfect isn’t it? We all have different body shapes and different style and learning sewing will improve your style and fashion too and also let you adjust your clothes the way you wanted it to be. It does not end here sewing also helps you adjust mentally. Yes!

How Sewing helps mentally?

Sewing can benefit your mental health, here is how.

First, You are spending time for yourself. Which we usually dont. sitting on a smartphone trying to scratch it’s screen the whole night. it gives nothing. But sewing is something you are doing yourself like physically organizing things, you are mentally organizing your mind.

Second, Your mind is focused on one thing, that means you are in a single state of mind. While you are on social media you jump through almost all apps on your phone and you end up doing nothing with your messy brain and creating some unknown stress to your brain by thinking and watching useless stuff.

Third, You can’t multi task here. You have only two hands. So sewing makes you focuses on doing one thing and the time flies fast. You won’t believe how much time it takes and you won’t feel losing the time. Because you are doing something for that can help you forget everything.

Fourth, As you start sewing you are spending time for yourself and improving your fashion or making something for you. And it makes you focused on one thing, it’s like meditation you are focusing on one thing religiously with all focus & concentration and this makes your mind
clear and free from all unwanted thoughts.

Fifth, It reduces your anxiety, stress, depression. How? try sewing. You are bringing your mind at one place at one activity and making something for yourself and a selfish time to not just make something but to control your mind from stress or depression or anxiety.

Feel free to try it. It also enhances your creative thinking ability and create new ideas. I tried it. It helped me, i know it will help you too.

So who is ready to try?

Thanks for the read ✨🤗✍️

  4. Very nice post. Old people used to sew, knit and do other productive things instead of wasting their time on mobile. It kept them happy and stress free but now people just waste time on mobile doing nothing.

  8. I’ve been sewing for many years, mainly clothes for myself, I’m tall and it was always impossible to find any clothes long enough, I used to make everything, jeans, trousers, jackets, etc. now there are ‘long’ fittings in most clothes, so I concentrate on shirts, still no luck buying shirts that fit.

Apart from that, I couldn’t imagine a day where I don’t sit at my machine, it is therapeutic…

  10. I have not done sewing since many years. But I did use to sew my shirt buttons long time back. At times, I did horribly wrong. But gradually, I improved and was able to stitch buttons quite well.

  11. Very nice post. Nowadays, people just waste their whole day on the internet and social media while in past people use their free time doing various things like sewing, knitting, etc. Such things are a stress reliever.
